More Tips for Removing Tough Stains from Your Carpet

by | Mar 3, 2017 | Home Improvement

When you get a tough stain in your carpet, you may feel like your only option is to hire a professional carpet cleaner, but this is not always the case. In many cases you can get stains out of your carpet just as effectively as a professional, but much cheaper. Here are a few ways to get tough stains out of that new carpeting from Downers Grove, IL.

Dish Soap for Oil

Dish soap is a great way to get oil or grease based stains out of your carpet. If it can break down the grease on your cookware, then it can certainly handle a stain. The main concern here is how strong of a detergent dish soap can be. Try it in a corner or other inconspicuous area to make sure that it is not going to mess up your carpet. If it pulls the color out of the carpet, then you may want to either try something else or try a milder soap.

Freeze Off Gum

Gum is a nightmare for anyone who has ever gotten it in their hair or on their carpet. Gum will stick into the fibers in the carpet and can be a hassle to get out. There is an easy way to get it out, however. Simply use an ice cube to freeze the gum, then break it up. If it is really mashed into the carpet, then you may have to cut the carpet. If this is the case, then do it as high up as possible to avoid it looking like it has been cut. If you are lucky, then it will simply break apart and come up.

Use Hydrogen Peroxide for Blood

Blood stains can be a pain to get out, especially in white carpet, but they are not impossible. To get a blood stain out, start by loosening it by dabbing at it with a warm, moist rag. Once you have gotten all that you can this way put some hydrogen peroxide on it and let it soak. Once it stops foaming dab it up and you should see the blood stain come out.
