Avoiding the Need for an Ingrown Toenail Doctor

Physical Therapy

Most people don’t really think too much about their feet. That is, until something goes wrong and they become painful. Something that happens quite often to adults is ingrown toenails, which can be very frustrating and painful. If you are one of those unfortunate people, here is a couple tricks to try that can help you avoid the need to see an ingrown toenail doctor to take care of your ingrown toenail.

Avoiding Ingrown Toenails
One way to avoid getting ingrown toenails to begin with it to make sure to cut your toenails straight across. When you cut them rounded, this allows the skin of your toe to start to grow over the nail, making it ingrown eventually. This is an easy way to avoid getting them to begin with.

Using the Cotton Ball Method
To help get rid of your ingrown toenail, soak your feet in hot water and Epsom salt for about 20 minutes. The hot water is going to help soften the toenail so that it is easier to deal with. It will also help with any infection and reduce any swelling. Once your toenail is nice and soft, cut your nail straight across and not too short.

After soaking your feet and your nail is nice and soft, take a small piece of a clean cotton ball and gently place it under the nail where it is ingrown. Place as much cotton under the nail as you can without it being too uncomfortable. The cotton will keep the nail from growing in, and the nail will grow over the cotton. If you keep at it, it will help you avoid needing to see an ingrown toenail doctor.
